A woman insists her clothes stay odor-free even though she washes them just once a year, sparking curiosity and disbelief.

In a world where most people wash their clothes regularly, one woman stands out with her unusual approach.

Cydney, a wildlife conservationist from Surrey, has gained attention for claiming she only washes her clothes once a year.

While this might sound shocking to many, she believes it is a sustainable choice with benefits.

Cydney’s method is very different from the usual approach.

She hand-washes her clothes and puts her jeans in the freezer.

She explains that this technique helps keep her clothes fresh without frequent washing.

According to Cydney, her clothes do not smell bad, and she enjoys the sight of the dirty water when she finally does wash them.

Many people think washing clothes often is necessary to maintain cleanliness.

However, Cydney argues that washing clothes too frequently can be harmful both to the clothes and the environment.

She points out that washing machines consume a lot of water and electricity.

Additionally, laundry detergents and fabric softeners can add to household expenses.

By washing her clothes only once a year, she believes she is reducing her environmental impact.

Cydney’s approach is particularly focused on wool garments.

Wool is known for its unique properties. It is naturally resistant to odors and moisture.

This means wool can stay clean for longer periods compared to materials like cotton or polyester.

Cydney claims that because wool wicks away sweat and heat, it helps prevent bad smells.

She only washes her wool items once a year, which she believes is sufficient.

She explained: “I was my clothes once a year. I only wash my wool items once a year.

Some people are going to be thinking that is absolutely vile that you only wash your clothes that often, especially if you wear them a lot.

“Wool is such an amazing fibre and has a lot of qualities which allows me to do this.

Wool is naturally anti-microbial and anti-fungal and because of that it naturally wicks sweat and heat away from the skin during exercise, which in turn prevents odours.”

Cydney added: “The surface of the wall also repels water and is stain-resistant”

Cydney’s unique clothes-washing method

To illustrate her method, Cydney shares videos on TikTok, where she shows how she cleans her clothes.

In her videos, she demonstrates how she soaks a jumper in water and uses fabric softener to help with the cleaning process.

After soaking, she rinses the jumper and wraps it in a towel to dry.

This method is gentle and preserves the quality of the wool, reducing the risk of damage.

Despite her unconventional method, Cydney recognizes that her lifestyle may not be for everyone.

She encourages people to consider investing in high-quality wool items.

These garments, she argues, require less frequent washing and can last longer.

By choosing better materials, individuals can reduce their laundry burden while also being kinder to the planet.

She continued: “‘Up to 500,000 tons of microplastic ends up in the ocean in a year from laundering synthetic materials.

Wool just doesn’t need washing as regularly as synthetic. Is it not so satisfying though to see the colour of the water?

”It’s so easy to damage wool and cashmere through washing too so why risk it!”

Critics of Cydney’s method might argue that not washing clothes regularly could lead to hygiene issues.

However, she insists that with the right materials, it is possible to maintain cleanliness without frequent washing.

She believes that understanding how different fabrics work can help people make better choices about their clothing care.

Some viewers have responded positively to her videos.

People have shared their own experiences, agreeing that they do not wash their clothes often either.

One commenter mentioned that they only wash their trousers when they spill something on them.

Others suggested using underlayers made of materials that can be washed more frequently, which allows outer layers to stay cleaner longer.
