The question is: ‘Explain to me why a fresh salad cost $9 in cooked beef burhger past the dollar 59’.

Additionally, he addressed a common question: why do McDonald’s salads cost significantly more than their burgers?

He revealed that the perishable nature of salad ingredients is the key factor compared to beef patties.

He explains that salads, costing around $5 or more depending on the toppings, are more expensive than burgers, which average about $2.

Salads containing ingredients such as lettuce, romaine and green leafy vegetables are very perishable. They affect quality if frozen or refrigerated for long-term storage. So managing and selling them becomes more expensive.

Burgers: beef patties, on the other hand, can be preserved by freezing or refrigerating. This extended shelf life reduces the overall cost of handling and storing.

Haracz said that transporting and handling fresh produce is more delicate compared to beef

Transporting lettuce carefully avoids bruising and makes it sellable, whereas beef is less susceptible to damage during transit.

He explained: ‘The same trucks that transport beef also transport lettuce. You can’t compound it. You can’t crush it. You have to be very delicate with it, or it gets bruised, and people won’t buy it’.
