A man recalls a strange encounter after purchasing a forgotten ghost town for $1.4 million, sparking eerie experiences.
Brent Underwood made headlines when he bought a ghost town in California for $1.4 million.
This town, called Cerro Gordo, is located near Death Valley and has a rich history.
Once a busy silver mining town in the 1800s, it is now mostly abandoned.
The man made a life-changing decision to buy ghost town Cerro Gordo.
Brent purchased the ghost town in 2020, using his life savings. Before this, he lived in Austin, Texas.
The idea came to him during the pandemic.
He and his friend decided to invest in something unique and adventurous.
They wanted to bring new life to a place that had seen better days.
Cerro Gordo was once known for its silver mines.
During its peak, it was a bustling community. However, it also had a dark side.
Reports indicated that one murder occurred each week, which adds to its eerie reputation.
Despite this, Brent saw potential in the town and wanted to restore it.
The YouTuber documents the life in the ghost town
After moving to Cerro Gordo, Brent began documenting his experiences on YouTube.
His channel, “Ghost Town Living,” has gained a large following, with 1.69 million subscribers.
He shares stories about the town, the renovations he undertakes, and the locals he meets.
His videos capture both the beauty and the challenges of living in an abandoned place.
Brent said: “I have been living up in this town for the past four years straight, trying to just bring it to life.”
Brent hopes to attract visitors to Cerro Gordo.
He believes that by sharing its history and charm, he can breathe new life into it.
He often talks about his adventures and the projects he is working on, including restoring old buildings.
“I captured a lot of that in videos like this, I showed the good times, the heartbreak, the history I have uncovered, the people I have met, the projects we have done, the adventures I have gone on, and hopefully a little bit about all of that has changed me.”
Brent experienced strange events while renovating the ghost town.
One day, while he was renovating a shack to create a writing studio, Brent had a strange experience.
He noticed curtains moving as if someone was peeking out. He described seeing a little face looking at him from a bunkhouse.
At the same time, the kitchen light turned on, which puzzled him.
Later, he learned from the caretaker that no one had been staying in the bunkhouse for weeks. This revelation troubled Brent.
He decided to secure the bunkhouse with a padlock. However, when he returned, the kitchen light was on again.
This experience made him reconsider his beliefs about ghosts.
Previously, he had been a skeptic, but now he found himself questioning what he had witnessed.
In the video, he added: “Sometimes it’s beautiful and amazing, sometimes it’s terrifying and the scariest thing I’ve ever done.
“I grew up in the flatlands of Florida, so this is all new territory for me. Admittedly, prior to buying Cerro Gordo, I was a firm non-believer in ghosts.”
The man wrote a book about his chilling experiences.
Brent’s experiences in Cerro Gordo inspired him to write a book titled Ghost Town Living: Mining for Purpose and Chasing Dreams at the Edge of Death Valley.
In the book, he reflects on the town’s history and his journey in restoring it.
He hopes to share the significance of Cerro Gordo and its past with readers.
The book discusses not only the ghost town’s history but also Brent’s personal growth during his time there.
He aims to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter how unconventional they may seem.
