While sifting through the rubble, Yu’s colleague spotted a small silver object among the remains. It was Yu’s wedding ring.

Yu shared that their two sons were coping as best as they could. He explained that they often asked when they could go back home or return to school, both of which were destroyed in the fire.

“It’s never going to be the same for the kids,” Yu said, acknowledging the challenges they faced.

Yu’s sacrifice and determination

Before the fire reached his home, Yu evacuated his wife and children. He then returned to the fire line for a 16-hour shift, unaware that his own house was burning.

“I didn’t know until I got off my shift that our home had been destroyed,” he explained.
