Aniah Warne’s rent-free living in a shed
On social media, a user who goes by @aniahhhhwarne shared a TikTok video showing how a 21-year-old woman avoids paying rent by living in a shed.
Aniah Warne, 21, from Boise, Idaho, resides in a small shed located in her parents’ backyard, just steps away from their home.
Warne proudly shows off her tiny, rent-free hideaway, sharing the details with her followers on TikTok.
In the video posted on Tiktok, Warne gives an inside look at her one-room shed.
The space is eclectically decorated, with a tapestry above the bed, floating shelves, posters, and a salt lamp.
The shed, which functions as a tiny studio apartment, lacks a kitchen and bathroom, but Warne has no problem using the ones in her parents’ house.
The shed is located next to her parents’ home.
She explains how a small step leads to a porch, and a wall opens to reveal a view of outdoor bamboo.
Warne enjoys the space, showing off the simple yet cozy setup. “I have my desk, a TV, my bed, and the view from my bed,” she says.
Warne’s shed has a small space but big comfort.
@aniahhhhwarne my happy space
Despite its compact size, the shed has everything she needs. There’s a nightstand with essentials, a cute chair, a fridge, and even a closet.
The small walk-in closet is functional, though she admits it’s often packed with clothes. Warne jokes, “It’s quite clean right now.”
The shed may lack a kitchen and bathroom, but Warne says it’s not an issue.
“I walk like 10 feet inside [my parents’ house], and there’s the bathroom and kitchen,” she explains. For cooking and hygiene, she uses her parents’ home, which is conveniently located right next door.
Warne also revealed her methods for dealing with bugs and controlling the temperature
Viewers were curious about bugs in the shed. Warne explains that she doesn’t face many issues with insects, adding that the open window and door keep the space free of flies. However, she does have to be mindful of ants if food is left out.
As for temperature, the shed is equipped with both an air conditioner and a heater. “When it’s hot, I have an AC. When it’s cold, I have a heater,” she shares. The moderate temperatures are managed by simply leaving the door open.
Social media reaction
Warne’s video quickly went viral and sparked debate among viewers. In the comment section, many viewers were shocked by Warne’s shed, while others praised her pseudo-apartment for being fully furnished and rent-free.
One person said: No harm in contributing to the household and being partially independent while saving. Parents always want the best for the kids, and only the parents and this girl knows if its a fair thing or not.
A second wrote: People have been living in their parents sheds for ever this isn’t news I have a son in mine as we speak !
While a third commented: That is a wonderful plan….your children will be prepared financially and emotionally to launch. Wish I had the done that better. Can I use the camper until the first one is ready?
Another added: Kitchen and bathroom is at her parents house
Why Aniah loves living in a shed
Despite its unconventional nature, Warne loves her shed. In a follow-up post, she confirmed her fondness for the arrangement, stating, “I love my rent-free shed.” She’s content with her living situation, even though it’s not the traditional college experience she once imagined.
Warne initially thought she’d move away for school, but instead, she ended up living in her parents’ backyard. “I thought I’d get a job and go to an out-of-state school,” she reflects.
