On social media, many viewers were stunned after Kanye West used a Super Bowl commercial to sell controversial T-shirts amid outrage.
Kanye West’s Super Bowl commercial sparks outrage
Kanye West aired a low-budget commercial during the Super Bowl. It appeared simple but led to major controversy. The ad directed viewers to his website, yeezy.com. Within an hour, the site was selling a t-shirt featuring a swastika.
Kanye West use Low–Budget Ad Strategy as contact potential customer
The commercial followed West’s signature low-cost style. He sat in a chair, saying he spent all his money on new teeth. Filmed on an iPhone, the ad ended with him directing viewers to visit yeezy.com.
Many praised the ad’s humor and creativity. However, the reaction changed when the controversial merchandise appeared online.
How Yeezy sold nazi-related T-Shirts
When the ad aired, there was no offensive content on the website. But within an hour, only one item remained for sale. The product was a t-shirt featuring a swastika, titled ‘HH-01.’
According to the Anti-Defamation League, ‘HH’ is shorthand for ‘Heil Hitler.’ This immediately raised alarms among advocacy groups and the public.
How the Ad passed broadcast standards
Three Fox-owned TV stations aired Kanye’s commercial. The ad itself contained nothing controversial. Networks typically allow local businesses to purchase ad space, making it easier for Yeezy to pass approval.
One insider told Variety: “The copy was clean, the website was clean. No one put two and two together.” Once the ad went live, Kanye made his move.
Shopify’s response and Yeezy.com shutdown
The backlash was swift. Shopify, the e-commerce platform hosting Yeezy’s store, quickly took action. They removed the website, preventing further sales.
A Shopify spokesperson told NBC News: “This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them.”
Now, anyone attempting to visit Yeezy.com is met with an error message stating: “This store is unavailable.”
Social media reaction
On social media, many viewers were stunned by Kanye West’s commercial, while some supported his business strategy.
Additionally, others also criticized him for using the Super Bowl’s influence for personal gain.
One person said: With all those tweets he was sending the entire weekend they should have pulled the commercial anyway and send back the money he payed for it.
A second wrote: did he get his teeth done in a back street dentist in Turkey
While a third commented: The issue is that people agreed to this bs. There’s no way he runs that site alone so someone wherever agreed this was a good idea
Another added: They should release the information of everyone who bought one of these shirts…
Someone else said: Dude is a lunatic and people need to quit giving him attention that’s obviously what he is wanting
Another user added: In my opinion its technically a flag so who ever wears one you can
Kanye West has faced many controversies, but this may be one of the most severe. His attempt to use the Super Bowl to promote offensive merchandise backfired. His store is now offline, and public backlash continues to grow.
With major platforms distancing themselves from him, Kanye’s future in fashion and business remains uncertain.
