On social media, many viewers were stunned after a viral video captured the moment Timothée Chalamet shut down Julianne Hough’s Oscars 2025 interview request.
The 2025 Oscars red carpet featured an awkward exchange between Timothée Chalamet and Julianne Hough.
The “Dancing with the Stars” co-host asked Chalamet to rap in Bob Dylan’s voice. His response quickly went viral.
Timothée chalamet dismisses Hough’s request
Julianne Hough, 36, interviewed Chalamet, 29, during ABC’s pre-Oscars coverage.
She referenced his past “Saturday Night Live” skits with Pete Davidson. Then, she asked if he could say “skrt, skeet” in Bob Dylan’s voice.
Chalamet remained straight-faced and simply replied, “You know what? I’m gonna need a check.”
Hough laughed off the response and quickly moved on. But the internet didn’t.
Fans react to the cringeworthy moment
Social media erupted with opinions. Many viewers criticized Hough’s question, calling it unoriginal and uncomfortable.
One person said: Lol sorry to this woman, but what a dumb question.
A second wrote: Dance for me, monkey’ is a tactic that 9 times out of 10 will not go over well.
Others defended Chalamet, praising his reaction: Love that he said that.
Someone fan wrote: He’s given so much during this awards season. Enough with asking him to perform on cue.
Chalamet’s history with rapping on SNL
Chalamet first showcased his rapping skills on “SNL” in 2020.
He played a SoundCloud rapper alongside Pete Davidson in the “Rap Roundtable” sketch. His character returned in November 2023 for the “Museum of Hip-Hop Panel” skit.
Hough’s request referenced these performances, but Chalamet was not amused.
Hough’s earlier comments about Chalamet
Before the Oscars, Hough spoke with USA Today. She joked, “I haven’t met Timothée Chalamet. I hope he’s shirtless.”
She later co-hosted “The Oscars Red Carpet Show” with Jesse Palmer. She wore a flowing sheer Christian Dior gown for the event.
Chalamet attended the Oscars in a butter-yellow Givenchy suit. He was nominated for Best Actor for “A Complete Unknown,” a Bob Dylan biopic.
Adrien Brody won the award for “The Brutalist.” If Chalamet had won, he would have become the youngest Best Actor winner in history.
When Brody’s name was announced, Chalamet applauded. He hugged his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, and his mother, Nicole Flender. Later, he congratulated Brody backstage.
Despite the loss, Chalamet remained in high spirits. He and Jenner attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, capping off a star-studded night.
