A family bought a pet octopus for their nine-year-old son, only for it to wreak havoc and completely destroy their home.

In a surprising turn of events, a family’s decision to get a pet octopus has led to unexpected chaos in their home.

Cal Clifford, a nine-year-old boy from Edmond, Oklahoma, had always wanted an octopus instead of a traditional pet.

After years of asking, his parents finally decided to grant his wish.

Family bought an octopus for their son on his birthday.

On Cal’s ninth birthday, the family brought home an octopus they named Terrance. Initially, everything seemed fine.

The family enjoyed their time with Terrance, who quickly became a part of their daily lives.

However, it soon became evident that caring for an octopus was not as easy as they had hoped.

As the weeks went by, the family made a shocking discovery.

Terrance was actually female and had laid around 50 eggs. This news brought mixed feelings.

While they were excited about the new little octopuses, they also realized that female octopuses die after laying eggs. This meant they had some tough days ahead.

Challenges of caring for Terrance’s babies

Caring for the eggs was no easy task. The family found it challenging to manage the needs of the soon-to-be hatchlings.

They faced stress and financial difficulties as they tried to create more aquariums for the baby octopuses.

Family’s unusual pet causes home chaos and financial strain

Water spills and electrical issues became common as they struggled to set up proper care for the octopus family.

The home suffered from these problems, causing frustration and concern for the Clifford family.

They had never anticipated that their pet would lead to such chaos.

Cal’s dad, Cameron, shared his thoughts about the experience.

He advised others not to consider getting a pet octopus unless they were fully prepared for the responsibilities involved.

“It’s a lot of work. A lot of work and emotion and money and time.

“Every scientist I speak to is always kind of astonished by that fact that we were able to get such a high yield in a kid’s bathroom.”

Cherished memories of Terrance remain strong.

Sadly, Terrance passed away in April 2024, leaving the family heartbroken. She had been a unique and beloved member of the household.

Despite the challenges, the family still cherishes the memories they made with her.

They often reflect on the lessons learned during their time with Terrance.

“Do not get a pet octopus unless you’re ready to lose sleep and your kids’ college fund simultaneously.” Cameron said.

After Terrance’s passing, the Clifford family decided to care for some of her hatchlings.

They were determined to give the baby octopuses the best life possible.

The family shares their journey on social media, showing their commitment to the little creatures.
