The family of a victim of the tragic Titan submarine explosion has filed a $50M lawsuit against OceanGate, the company responsible for the ill-fated expedition.
This lawsuit claims that the company’s negligence led to the fatal accident, which took the lives of everyone aboard the submersible.
Family of Titan sub-explosion victim filled $50M lawsuit against OceanGate for fatal negligence
Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a 77-year-old French naval commander known as “Mr. Titanic,” was aboard the Titan submarine.
The vessel suddenly imploded during its descent to the Titanic wreckage site in the North Atlantic in June 2023.
The lawsuit, filed in Washington state on Tuesday, accuses OceanGate of gross negligence.
It claims the “doomed” submersible had a “troubled history” that the company did not disclose.
Nargeolet’s family argues that OceanGate did not fully inform him and the other passengers about the vessel’s flaws and shortcomings even though he was designated as a crew member.
The $50M lawsuit claims the company “purposely concealed” critical details about the submersible’s durability and safety.
Nargeolet was a second Titanic explorer who had made over three dozen trips to the wreck site.
In which, he was also part of the first human expedition to visit it in 1987.
His family believes he would not have participated in the ill-fated Titan voyage if OceanGate had been more transparent about the submersible’s troubled history.
“The family filed this lawsuit to get answers as to exactly how this happened, who all were involved, and how those involved could allow this to happen,” the attorneys added.
The Titan submersible tragically exploded and killed all passengers boarding
The Titan implosion also claimed the lives of OceanGate CEO and co-founder Stockton Rush, British adventurer Hamish Harding, and Pakistani father-and-son Shahzada and Suleman Dawood.
In addition to these individuals, Paul-Henri Nargeolet was among the victims.
The Titan submersible had set off from St. John’s, Newfoundland, on the morning of June 18, 2023, but lost contact with its support vessel about two hours into the descent.
After a massive search and rescue operation, the wreckage was eventually found on the ocean floor approximately 984 feet from the Titanic.
OceanGate has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
The company has faced intense scrutiny and criticism since the tragedy.
Many experts and former employees had warned about the submersible’s safety issues before the fatal incident.

Did he have an insurance policy for $50m?
If you are that crazy to go underwaters risking your life you know you would’ve had to have insurance.
