A cis woman was asked to leave a women’s bathroom after security mistakenly thought she was a man and demanded gender proof.
A recent incident at the Liberty Hotel in Boston has raised serious concerns about discrimination and the treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals.
Ansley Baker and her girlfriend, Liz Victor, a same-sex couple from out of town, were at a hotel.
They became involved in a disturbing altercation during a Kentucky Derby party on May 3, 2025.
The couple was escorted out of the female restroom after security wrongly accused them of breaking gender norms.

ToggleWoman wrongfully thrown out of female toilets after security guard ‘thought she was a man’
Ansley and Liz were enjoying their time at the Liberty Hotel when the confrontation began.
According to their accounts, they were in separate areas of the women’s restroom when security approached Ansley.
The security staff allegedly misgendered Ansley, accusing her of being a man in the women’s bathroom.
Despite Ansley’s clear protests that she was a woman, the security guards insisted that she leave.
“I pulled my shorts up. I hadn’t even tied them. One of the security guards was there telling me to get out of the bathroom, that I was a man in the women’s bathroom.
I said: ‘I’m a woman,’” Ansley said in a statement.
Her girlfriend Liz, who was waiting by the sinks, became aware of the situation when she noticed Ansley being escorted out by security.

Public insults and misgendering occurred during the confrontation.
As Ansley was escorted out, a group of women waiting in line for the bathroom began calling her names.
The women allegedly referred to her as “a creep,” believing the misgendered security claim that Ansley was male.
The altercation became heated when security demanded that the couple prove their genders by presenting identification.
The couple, stunned by the treatment they received, explained that they were not in the same stall, as claimed by the hotel.

The couple has firmly denied the hotel’s allegations of violent behavior.
They stated they were only defending themselves in an unfairly escalated situation.
Hotel responded with an investigation and staff suspension.
The Liberty Hotel explained in a statement that security responded to a complaint about two adults sharing one stall.
The hotel claimed an altercation occurred when one woman allegedly touched a security member.
According to the hotel, this led to their removal from the premises.
The Liberty Hotel emphasized that it has a zero-tolerance policy for physical altercations and that it was investigating the incident.
However, the couple’s version of the events contradicts this statement, as they insist they were never in the same stall.
They also clarified that they were only removed from the bathroom after being wrongly accused.

Revised statement and apology issued by hotel.
Days after the incident, the Liberty Hotel released a revised statement acknowledging the mishandling of the situation.
The hotel immediately suspended the security guard involved in the confrontation.
The hotel also committed to mandatory retraining of its staff to ensure inclusivity and better guest interaction, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals.
The statement added: “In a reaffirmation of our values, the hotel is making a donation to a local LGBTQ+ organization that we have partnered with in the past, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), on May 17.”
