In a viral social media story, a man had a close call to being scammed during his first date with a woman he met on the Hinge dating app.
What made the situation even more interesting was that she brought a friend along and started ordering drinks, putting the man in a difficult position.
Man decides to take on a dining date with a woman from Hinge dating app.
The man, who goes by the name Johnny America on TikTok, decided to give this woman a chance and meet up with her for a casual lunch.
However, instead of showing up alone, she surprised him by bringing a friend to the hibachi eatery. This unexpected addition to the date immediately raised eyebrows.
On a viral clip posted by @__johnnyamerica, he said: “I get there to meet this girl for Hibachi, and she brings a friend with her and goes, ‘Hey, would it be cool if my friend just jumps in with us?”
“‘I guess,’” he said.
“She’s already here. What was I going to tell her, ‘go away?’”
The woman’s friend ordered a lavish meal while she and Johnny were talking.
Caught off guard, Johnny didn’t want to be rude and decided to go along with the situation. While he was engaged in conversation with his date, her friend took the liberty of ordering multiple drinks and expensive food.
Johnny, realizing that he was being taken advantage of, pretended to play it cool while silently observing the situation.
“These girls think I’m stupid. I’m not,” he said.
After that, the chef approached the table to take their orders. Johnny, who had ordered a simple chicken and rice dish, was amazed when the women decided to indulge in a ‘surf and turf’ meal.
It was at this moment that he fully understood what was happening. When the bill arrived and the chef asked if they wanted to split it, the women casually replied that they wanted it “all in one.”
The man quickly ran out of there without paying for the dining date
Sensing the opportunity to escape the situation, Johnny requested his food to be packed to go and excused himself to the restroom.
“So, I tell the chef, ‘Hey, do me a favor, will you just box up my food real quick, and I’m gonna go to the restroom.’ She goes, ‘Yeah, yeah no problem,’” he recalled.
However, instead of going to the restroom, he made a swift exit to his car and drove home, leaving the women to foot the bill.
“‘Guess where I went? I didn’t go to the restroom. I went in my car and I went home. You think I’m stupid? I’m not. You paid my bill. Thanks.’”
He came back and only tipped for the chef
The following day, Johnny returned to the restaurant to ensure that the bill had been paid.
To his surprise, he discovered that the women had waited for half an hour before another man came in and paid the tab. This incident confirmed Johnny’s suspicions about their intentions and he concluded that they were not good people.
As a gesture of gratitude to the chef who had unknowingly been caught up in the situation, Johnny left a $20 tip and left the restaurant.
Social media reaction
On social media, people expressed their amusement on the matter and the man’s quick-thinking.
Unless that night ending in a 3 way I’m out too, good move, one user said.
It was a date. Dates do not include a plus 1, the second user commented.
Roll out my guy. I would’ve paid what I owe, and bounced, the third user said.
Good 4 him, let them pay for their greed and stupidity, another wrote.
Well, good for him. Men need to stand up for themselves too. These women were wrong for that and honestly, they got what they deserved.
*** Sidenote, he could’ve at least paid for his own meal- to keep him out of potential legal problems, it’s against the law to dine and dash, someone wrote.
Should have asked for separate checks and paid your share, another joked.
