Accoring to U.S Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the controversial Trump Gold Card visa program is set to launch online within weeks.

The initiative offers wealthy foreigners the opportunity to buy a path to U.S. citizenship by investing $5 million into the country.

Trump previously described the Gold Card as “like a green card, but better and more sophisticated.”

Trump said the Gold Card would go on sale “very, very soon”.

Trump explained: it would be like a green card, “but better and more sophisticated.” He said the newest path to citizenship in the U.S. would allow the “most successful job-creating people from all over the world to buy a path to citizenship.”.

At the Axios “Building the Future” event, Lutnick confirmed the program’s imminent rollout.

He said the official website—trumpcard.gov—will be live within a week. Registration and full details will follow shortly after.

Trump Gold Card targets wealthy investors for U.S. citizenship

During his appearance, Lutnick emphasized that the Gold Card targets financially capable individuals from around the globe.

These applicants, he claimed, will be “great people” who bring businesses, jobs, and capital to America.

He was asked when the $5 million Gold Card would be available. Lutnick said the website trumpcard.gov should launch in about a week.

“The details of that will come soon after, but people can start to register. And all that will come over a matter of the next weeks — not month, weeks,” Lutnick said.

The program targets wealthy foreigners expected to bring jobs, business, and investment.

“Basically, everyone I meet who’s not American is going to want to buy the card if they have the fiscal capacity”. He added.

He told a story about pitching the program at a 400-person dinner in the Middle East. He joked that selling the card had become a common topic in his international conversations.

Trump’s visa plan could yield $1 trillion if fully adopted

Lutnick painted a bold financial picture. He said if 200,000 people buy the Gold Card at $5 million each, the U.S. could generate $1 trillion in revenue.

He compared it to the 280,000 visas the U.S. currently grants each year for free.

“Donald Trump’s gonna bring in a trillion dollars… to make America better. And it makes perfect sense to me,” he said.

He framed the program as a smarter alternative to current immigration policy and a new tool to help reduce the national debt.

Despite potential economic benefits, critics warn the Trump Gold Card could invite fraud and abuse.

Not everyone is convinced. Immigration experts, including Lora Ries of the Heritage Foundation.

Critics warn of fraud risks, while Trump pushes wealth-based immigration over open borders.

This raised concerns that a high-value visa like this could attract fraud and manipulation.

“Any immigration benefit draws fraud,” Ries warned. “People are willing to do anything and say just about anything to come to the U.S.”

However, Lutnick assured that all applicants would undergo deep vetting.

Speaking on Fox News, he reiterated that only top-tier, vetted candidates would be eligible for the visa.

The Trump Gold Card initiative reflects a shift toward wealth-based citizenship while tightening borders elsewhere.

Trump has long advocated for bringing in the world’s wealthiest citizens, while simultaneously cracking down on illegal immigration.

The Gold Card initiative combines these goals by offering citizenship to those who can afford it.

It also aims to limit uncontrolled border entry.

This rollout occurs amid ongoing debates about student loan debt and rising education costs.

Additionally, it raises questions about how the U.S. prioritizes access and opportunity.

The Gold Card reflects a shift toward wealth-based migration, signaling a stark contrast to past immigration policies.
