The NYC newlywed revealed why they charged guest fees for their wedding

The couple revealed that last month they made this choice after realizing a traditional wedding in New York City would cost them a minimum of $150,000.

Out of the 350 invited guests, only 60 attended, allowing the couple to save $70,000 which they plan to use to start a family.

While some TikTok users have praised the couple’s “smart” financial planning, others have been highly critical.

A commenter harshly criticized the couple, calling them “cheapskates” who want “the bling” but expect friends to pay for their wedding.

They said they would end their friendship with anyone who used such a tactic.

The Styles responded by explaining that the 60 tickets could not have covered the cost of their 12-hour wedding celebration.

“It’s silly to think 60 tickets could pay for the 12-hour wedding day that we had!!

It DEF didn’t and we paid for all of our wedding ourselves!!” they wrote.

Social media reactions

They couple’s unconventional wedding has sparked a heated debate on social media.

12 hours for a wedding, H&lol no. I won’t go and if I go, I won’t bring a gift. With crime so high in NYC I’m surprised there wasn’t security.

Excuse me but that could have been a down payment for a house, one user said.

Their guests should have charged THEM to go to the wedding, the second user suggested.

If you don’t want or can’t afford $300 then don’t go, It’s that easy, the third user emphasized.

I guess there is a sucker born every minute…. personally, I wouldn’t pay $333 to go to someone’s wedding if they asked me, another said.
