A couple married for 10 years, with three children, took a DNA test and discovered they were cousins, leaving the wife feeling deeply shocked.
In today’s world, DNA tests have become popular.
Many people use them to learn about their ancestry or to connect with family members.
However, for one couple, a simple DNA test turned into a surprising revelation that changed how they viewed their relationship.
The mother of three decided to take DNA test to discovery more about ancestry
Celina Quinones and Joseph Battison have been married for over ten years and have three children together.
They lived in Colorado and seemed like a typical family.
Celina, wanting to know more about her heritage, took a DNA test through 23andMe.
She thought it would be a fun way to explore her family history, especially since people often asked her about her children’s different appearances.
Celina explained: “I started really diving into my DNA because I wanted to find out my heritage – my daughter is really dark-skinned,
and my son has curly hair, my middle child is light-skinned, and everyone would ask ‘what are you what are you?’
I couldn’t really give an answer except Native American.”

When the test results came back, Celina and her husband were shocked.
It turned out that she and Joseph were not just husband and wife; they were also third to fifth cousins.
This news left Celina feeling “sick to her stomach.”
She began to question their marriage and even considered whether they should separate. It was a lot for her to process.
Celina shared her experience on the podcast “Love Don’t Judge.”
She explained that her curiosity about her ancestry started when her daughter received questions about her dark skin.
Celina wanted to provide her children with clear answers about their heritage. However, the results of the DNA test raised more questions than answers.
After learning about their familial connection, Celina felt conflicted. She thought about what it meant for their marriage.
“Should we get a divorce? Are we even supposed to be together?” she asked herself.
Despite her initial shock, the couple decided to stay married. They have been together for 17 years, and their bond has endured this revelation.
She decided to share her experience on TikTok, thinking it could be a light-hearted moment. However, the post received backlash.
Many people criticized her and Joseph for marrying someone who is technically a cousin.
Some comments were harsh, with strangers expressing their disapproval and concern for their children.
Their teenage son also spoke out about the situation.
He expressed that he felt a bit uncomfortable with the news. “It’s not something you want to brag about or put out to the world,” he said.
However, he also noted that since they found out after marrying, he didn’t see it as a serious issue.
He believed that if they had known before getting married, things might have been different.
When Celina and Joseph got married, their relatives did not recognize each other at the wedding.
Later, they learned that Joseph’s grandmother on his father’s side had been adopted, which meant they missed a family connection.
Celina said, “Colorado feels like a big place, but it’s actually not that big. Everyone knows each other, and most people are likely related.
