In less than a day, Milton transitioned from minimal hurricane strength to a dangerous storm. With sustained winds reaching 180 mph, it became one of the strongest Atlantic storms recorded.

Earlier today, Milton’s winds dropped to Category 4 strength. However, forecasters warned that it remains an extremely dangerous hurricane at landfall.

Forecast for Hurricane Milton’s path

Hurricane Milton’s center could make landfall Wednesday in the Tampa Bay region. This area has not experienced a direct hit from a major hurricane in over a century.

Scientists anticipate that Milton will weaken slightly before making landfall. However, it may still maintain hurricane strength as it moves across central Florida toward the Atlantic Ocean.

This trajectory may spare other states affected by Hurricane Helene, which resulted in at least 230 fatalities along its path from Florida to the Carolinas.

Urgent Warnings from officials

“This is the real deal here with Milton,” said Tampa Mayor Jane Castor during a news conference.

She cautioned: “If you want to take on Mother Nature, she wins 100% of the time.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis emphasized the importance of clearing debris left by Hurricane Helene. He stated that it is crucial to prevent debris from becoming dangerous projectiles. Over 300 vehicles were mobilized to remove debris on Sunday.

Hurricane Milton poses a serious threat as it approaches Florida.

Its rapid intensification and unusual lightning have alarmed residents.

Officials urge the public to take this storm seriously and prepare accordingly.
