Calloway shared her controversial decision on social media, stating her intention to remain at home even though the hurricane is predicted to be the storm of the century.

Authorities have urged residents to leave, but Calloway insists on staying in Sarasota, a mandatory evacuation zone.

Millions have already evacuated, but Calloway has chosen to remain in her waterfront home, citing a previous traumatic evacuation experience during Hurricane Ian as the reason.

In a video shared on October 8, Calloway said, “I’m going to die.” She explained that she couldn’t drive, and local airports were closed, leaving her without a way to evacuate.

The influencer explained that past trauma influenced her decision. Calloway further explained her hesitation to evacuate to her mother’s home, recalling a distressing evacuation during Hurricane Ian, which left her stranded without power or water for days.

Although she has decided to stay, Calloway admitted she is scared. She assured her followers that she has food and water but acknowledged the risks of staying. She promised to keep her audience updated.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor warned that those staying behind during a 15-foot storm surge could be in grave danger. She described it as akin to staying in a coffin.

Calloway’s decision has caused an outcry online. Many urged her to evacuate, with one Twitter user pleading for her to leave immediately and drive inland.

Hurricane Milton is set to make landfall today, October 9, with winds reaching up to 165 mph. The storm threatens to bring severe damage and life-threatening conditions to Florida.
