He survived Hurricane Helene but now faces the stronger Hurricane Milton. The storm is expected to hit Florida on October 9.
Terrence has tried to persuade Joe to seek shelter in a hotel. His efforts have been unsuccessful. Even the Chief of Tampa Police spoke to Joe, urging him to leave the boat. As of October 8, Joe remains determined to stay.
Joe believes his boat is the safest place to be.
Despite the threat of Hurricane Milton, Lieutenant Dan reportedly said that his boat is the safest plac
He explained, “The water’s going to come in and rise. If you’re on land, you risk drowning.” He feels the boat will rise with the water, keeping him safe.
Joe claims that “God” told him to get a boat, feeling reassured by this guidance.
He stated, “He’s got my back. I’m in good shape. I’m not sweating it.”
Joseph Malinowski gained notoriety for refusing evacuation orders, despite warnings from local authorities.
While, Mayor Jane Castor claimed that officers encouraged him to seek safety, but he remained resolute.

Earlier that evening, he posted a TikTok detailing his situation. He stated, “The storm is still about an hour and a half out,” expressing confidence in his safety.
His boat was secure against the 120 mph winds. He reported no structural damage and said, “I’m not taking on any water; I haven’t even spilled my coffee yet.”
Malinowski reassured his followers, saying, “I’ve got everything I need—plenty of water, food, coffee, and creamer.” He expressed gratitude for the support he received. Fans offered him motel rooms and shelter in other states.
Lieutenant Dan admitted he communicated with God during Hurricane Milton
During a seven-and-a-half-minute video, banging sounds echoed in the background as winds howled. Malinowski described the gusts as startling, comparing them to being “rear-end bumped at 5 mph.”
He claimed to have communicated with God, saying, “I got you, I got you.” He felt assured that everything would be alright, emphasizing, “Staying out here is stronger than your fears.”
Later that night, Malinowski informed reporter Kevin O’Donnell, “The water’s gone,” as his boat began to sink. He questioned whether the bay’s water would return.
In a follow-up video, Malinowski spoke to an internet streamer.
He explained that his boat had become stuck between the dock and the water. When asked if he should seek shelter, he replied, “I’m not really concerned right now.”
He learned that the storm had been downgraded, stating, “If it’s down to a Cat 3, I’m not concerned.” He reassured his followers, saying, “I think I should be good. Thank you guys for the prayers and the support.”
