On social media, many viewers stunned after a viral video showing Kamala Harris sparks social media debate over alleged ‘fake’ phone call.
A recent video of Vice President Kamala Harris has ignited a debate, with some viewers claiming a phone call she made to a voter might have been staged.
Harris visited to DNC Headquarters on election day
On Election Day, November 5, Harris visited the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C. There, she met with staff and volunteers actively phone banking to boost voter turnout.
During her visit, Harris made a call to an unnamed voter, which CNN cameras captured on video.
The phone call that sparked speculation
On X platform, Kamala Harris’s call, shared by @rawsalerts, quickly went viral and sparked speculation.
The post has the caption: “Watch as Kamala Harris makes calls at a phone bank just hours before polls close in Washington, D.C. Moments later, the camera captures her phone screen with only the camera app open, showing no active call screen”.
In the video, Harris greets the voter, saying, “Hi. How you doing?” After introducing herself, she adds, “I just came by to see if all [these] incredible people from every background who are all here voting make calls to reach out to our fellow Americans to remind you how important your vote is.”
When the voter confirms they’ve already voted, Harris responds, “You did? Thank you!” She then turns her iPhone screen to the crowd, prompting cheers.
Viewers notice an open camera app
Some viewers noticed that Harris’ phone appeared to have the camera app open, fueling accusations that the call was staged. Social media users quickly voiced their opinions.
One user posted: Kamala just acted like she was calling a voter, but when she showed the crowd her phone, the camera app was open.
Another said: “Caught in 4K as well” while others claimed she was “taking a pic of herself.”
Supporters defend Harris against ‘Fake Call’ claims
Many users defended Harris, explaining that iPhones can display the camera app while on a call.
A user wrote: No, Kamala Harris didn’t ‘fake a phone call’ just because you see a camera app. Try it. Make a call, open the camera, hold it to your cheek, and remove it.”
Another explained that simply swiping the screen while locked could open the camera app unintentionally.
The results of the 2024 U.S. presidential election have concluded with Republican candidate Donald Trump securing a decisive victory.
