After work, he drove through the drive-thru for a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit—three of them to be exact.

When he reached the window, he learned the person ahead of him had already paid $15 for his meal. “I was like, ‘well thank you, the fact that she paid $15 for somebody else, that’s wild,'” Darius said.

However, Darius was caught off guard when the employee asked if he wanted to pay for the next customer’s order. The employee explained that Darius had entered a “pay-it-forward” line, where multiple customers had paid for each other’s meals.

Curious, Darius asked how much the customer behind him owed. The total was a hefty $45.38—far more than he had expected to spend.

Darius’ reaction about the incident

“I didn’t sign up to feed the 5,000,” Darius joked in his TikTok video. “Who’s spending $45 at Bojangles?”

With that, Darius decided to end the pay-it-forward chain. While he appreciated the person who paid for his order, he had no interest in covering the $45 bill behind him.

The video quickly went viral and sparked debate on social media

After sharing his story, Darius received a range of reactions. One viewer sympathized with him, noting that “the chain has to be broken eventually.” They added that employees might dislike the system as well.

Another viewer firmly supported the pay-it-forward idea, sharing their own experience. Additionally, they expressed no concern about whether the next customers continued the chain.

One more reasonable suggestion came from a viewer who proposed a middle ground. They explained that if they found themselves in a pay-it-forward line, they would pay for their own order and let the next customer cover any difference.

One person said: The pay it forward line ends with me.

A second wrote: the “pay it forward” will ALWAYS stop with me.

While a third commented: “Damn big hungry” lmfao imma use this.

Another added: i don’t know about your bojangles but mine be running out out of food. half the time they don’t got fries

If the next person’s order is less or equal to mine, then I will pay. Otherwise, it’s a no. Someone else said.

The pay-it-forward concept can be a beautiful gesture, but it comes with mixed feelings. For some, it’s a small act of kindness, while for others, it might be an unexpected burden. Regardless, generosity is always appreciated, but it’s best to set limits.
