After 50,000 people signed a petition, the Australian Olympic Committee has launched a vigorous defense of Raygun.

On social media, many were stunned after more than 51,000 people signed a petition since Monday, August 12.

It called for accountability regarding Raygun’s performance.

Many expressed their annoyance after Raygun’s performance, especially after she scored zero at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Raygun’s Paris Olympics performance sparks controversy

Rachel ‘Raygun’ Gunn, a 36-year-old breakdancer, represented Australia in the breaking event at the Paris Olympics.

Her performance, which resulted in zero points across all three rounds, quickly went viral.

Many described her performance as looking like a kangaroo hopping after witnessing her dance on a viral video on social media.

She incorporated the sprinkler dance move to highlight her Australian roots. Additionally, she ended her performance by squirming on the dance floor with her hand on her chin

On social media, many were almost annoyed by the breakdancer’s performance.

As a result, this led to a significant amount of online backlash.

Many viewers have not only critiqued Raygun’s performance but also questioned her selection.

Furthermore, they even the nature of her performance, fueling the petition that demands an apology and transparency in the selection process.

A Change.org petition created by an account named ‘Someone who Hates Corruption’ demands immediate action and accountability regarding the recent selection process.

This petition again called attention to chef de mission Anna Meares.

Addressed to Anthony Albanese, the petition raises serious concerns about the integrity of the selection procedure.

It specifically questions Gunn’s inclusion and the approval of her performance at the game.

Furthermore, it also alleges that Gunn manipulated the selection process to her benefit.

At the present time, Raygun, the petition has garnered over 50,000 signatures, demanding a public apology from Raygun.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has strongly defended breakdancer Raygun following a controversial petition demanding a public apology from the athlete.

The petition, which has garnered over 50,000 signatures, accuses Raygun of manipulating the selection process for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

It calls for accountability from both Raygun and Chef de Mission Anna Meares.

The AOC has condemned the petition as “appalling” and “defamatory.”

Matt Carroll, AOC’s head, criticized the petition for spreading falsehoods and inciting public hatred against Raygun and Meares.

Carroll emphasized that the petition’s claims are unfounded and stated that the AOC has requested its removal from Change.org.

“The AOC is particularly offended by the affront to our Chef de Mission, Anna Meares,” Carroll stated.

“The Chef de Mission had no role in the qualification events nor in nominating athletes to the AOC Selection Committee. It is disgraceful that these falsehoods, concocted by an anonymous person, can be published in this way. This amounts to bullying and harassment and is defamatory.”

Additionally, Carroll reaffirmed the AOC’s support for Raygun and Meares. He asserted that the petition’s dissemination of misinformation undermines the integrity of the Olympic selection process.

He stressed the importance of basing opinions on facts rather than malicious untruths and called for the petition’s immediate removal.
