Bill Gates Discovers 50-Year-Old Code That Changed the Technology Industry

Recently, Bill Gates rediscovered a piece of computer code he wrote 50 years ago — a code considered a turning point that transformed the development of the global technology industry.

Although this code may seem simple and outdated in today’s era of booming artificial intelligence, back then it laid the foundation for Microsoft — the company Gates co-founded with Paul Allen — to build its name and grow strongly.

Microsoft just celebrated its 50th anniversary since its founding in April 1975. In a blog post, Gates shared his memories of the early days when he and Paul Allen created the world’s first “software factory.”

Memories of the Early Days of Microsoft

Bill Gates shared: “In 1975, Paul Allen and I founded Microsoft because we believed in the vision of putting a computer on every desk and in every home.

After five decades, Microsoft continues to create innovations that help people work smarter and live better.”

He also appreciated the great contributions of leaders like Steve Ballmer and Satya Nadella. Thousands of Microsoft employees also shaped the company’s journey.

Gates added: “I’m excited to celebrate this milestone. But I also feel a little bittersweet.

Looking back on Microsoft’s history always touches me deeply.

I still remember the days when Paul and I sat in Harvard’s computer lab. We wrote the first lines of code there. That code became the first product of our new company.”

Bill Gates will turn 70 this year. He has spent time reflecting on life and family. He said: “Like many people my age, I began a period of reflection a few years ago. My children had grown up and followed their own paths. I watched my father slowly decline and pass away from Alzheimer’s.

I went through old photographs, family papers, and decades-old computer code. I recorded my memories and gathered stories from family and friends. It was the first time I truly looked back at my journey. That process helped me understand myself better and appreciate my life path even more.”
