Esther Crawford, Twitter's director of product management, also the main character of the viral photo, was criticized for supporting Elon Musk's "horrible" work regime, encouraging people to sleep over at the company with the hashtag #SleepWhereYouWork.

Crawford has repeatedly stated that working overtime is appropriate. She said that doing difficult jobs requires sacrifices such as time and energy.

Crawford emphasized that she has colleagues around the world who are still working to bring breakthroughs to life. Therefore, she always tries to be present to maintain the group's development.

Twitter's product management director also expressed his gratitude on her page for being able to work overtime regularly.

However, Crawford's dedication does not keep her off Elon Musk's firing list.

On the evening of February 26, Esther Crawford was officially laid off, leaving many people surprised.

Netizens' reaction after Crawford was fired

After the news of Crawford's dismissal spread, it caused intense controversy on social media.

Some people mocked her, saying she was too confident in her abilities. However, others were angry on her behalf, saying she deserved a better workplace.

In the face of controversy, Crawford spoke out about her issue.

She said she felt disappointed because she had worked so hard for "Twitter 2.0ism" but people saw her optimism and hard work as a mistake.

Crawford added that the people who mocked her were completely on the sidelines and were never in the arena to understand what she did.

Twitter's former general manager of product management still affirms that she is always proud of what she did and the team she and her colleagues built during difficult times.

Elon Musk fired employees because the company was losing money

Since taking over Twitter, employees have gone through several rounds of severe layoffs.

Musk said the layoff decision was based on the company losing more than $4 million a day.

According to estimates, Twitter's workforce is less than 2,000 people compared to the original number of 7,500. More than half of the company was laid off to cut costs as much as possible.

Not only low-level employees but also those in higher positions are still being fired. Including Crawford, who joined Twitter in 2020.

The remaining people were asked to sign a commitment to be able to continue their work. If they do not sign before 5 pm, they will be fired with 3 months of severance pay.
