'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', the latest novel by 'Hunger Games' author Suzanne Collins, is the basis for the new Lionsgate movie that takes place a staggering 64 years before Katniss Everdeen's adventures, which were famously portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence on the big screen.
Lionsgate's description of the prequel reads as follows:
Set 64 years prior to the story of Katniss Everdeen, 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' follows 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Blyth), before he becomes the oppressive leader of Panem. Snow comes from a formerly prestigious family that has lost its status in a post-war Capitol. As the 10th Hunger Games nears, he is tasked with mentoring Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler), the tribute from the poverty-stricken District 12, and begins to see a glimmer of hope in their ability to work together.
Snow believes that his odds for success have improved when Lucy Gray captures the attention of the entire nation by singing against the Capitol during the reaping ceremony. As they team up and combine their talents for theatrics and political maneuvering, their efforts to survive the Hunger Games become a race against time, where their true natures as either songbirds or snakes are ultimately revealed.
Coming to theaters on November 17, 2023, is 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.
