Zack Snyder’s Justice League completes the director’s trilogy according to a new trailer from HBO Max. Thanks to the new streaming platform, the much-clamored Snyder Cut was finally released years after its theatrical counterpart premiered. However, for those hoping that there’s going to be more from the filmmaker’s vision for the DC superhero franchise, chances of that happening is very currently slim.
When Snyder was tapped to launch Warner Bros.’ interconnected superhero franchise, he came up with a five-part arc that would supposedly wrap up with Justice League 3. However, after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, plans were significantly changed, particularly with how Justice League — the midpoint of the overall narrative — was going to play out. Despite finishing principal photography for the project, Warner Bros. opted to change much of its story after Snyder stepped away from the blockbuster and was replaced by Joss Whedon. The result was very different from the original vision for the film which also effectively derailed the rest of the franchise’s initial blueprint.
Now that the Snyder Cut is released, it gives a sense of how the original DCEU narrative was supposed to play out, further piquing the interest of many to see how the rest of the story pans out. However, a new trailer from HBO Max that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the end of a trilogy following Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice with no more sequels. Check out the video below:
Even before the Snyder Cut was released, the director has been upfront with his fans saying that there’s no interest to continue his DCEU plan past the recently-released four-hour version of Justice League. The filmmaker himself is busy with other projects outside of the superhero sandbox with Netflix’s Army of the Dead just dropping a new trailer. This new clip from the streaming platform checks out with those comments, as well as, other separate ones from executives of the studio when asked about any potential future for Snyder’s DCEU. In hindsight, this makes sense from Warner Bros’ perspective since they have a slate of superhero films on the docket that will move the proper franchise forward as the Snyder Cut is not considered canon.
Still, given how Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘s ending obviously sets up a sequel, fans are hoping that Justice League 2 and 3 will be eventually greenlit. One look at the comments section for the aforementioned trailer on YouTube and it’s full of #RestoretheSnyderVerse comments. It’s uncertain if the new social media campaign will accomplish the goal it’s set out to do, but as seen in the last few years, Snyder fans are quite relentless in their efforts.
