The world is home to many fascinating creatures, and the orchid mantis is one of them. These insects are considered strange and extremely rare, as they have the ability to look like beautiful pink orchids.
The orchid mantis lives in tropical forests of Southeast Asia, ranging from Indonesia to the Philippines to India, and it is found abundantly in Peninsular Malaysia.
Although they possess delicate beauty similar to flowers, they are actually one of the most dangerous predatory insects. Their primary prey is butterflies. They perfectly mimic orchids and climb to the tops of flowering trees to disguise themselves and wait for their prey to arrive.
Many preys mistakenly think that the orchid mantis is a harmless flower. In addition to butterflies, even flies, or honeybees, are turned into delicious prey by orchid mantises because they mistakenly go in search of honey.
They do not know that they sit up not the flower and become the prey of orchid beetles. That is why this insect is called the master of makeup.
Orchid mantises are bipolar insects. The females are much larger in size, more colorful, and more sedentary. Males are smaller, grayer, and more mobile to facilitate reproduction.
Despite the danger, these creatures live very short. Their average life expectancy is less than 8 months. They have become quite popular pets because of their enchanting appearance.
