People are baffled after discovering a giant skull stranded ashore on Hatteras Island, sparking numerous theories surrounding it.

Scientists have made a remarkable discovery on a beach in North Carolina, where they have found the massive skull of a colossal creature weighing 40 tons.

According to reports, the skull fragment, measuring approximately 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall, washed ashore on Hatteras Island, part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The National Park Service (NPS), responsible for maintaining the coastal region, reported the discovery and urged the public not to attempt to remove the skull due to its size and fragility.

NPS officials stated that the fragment is believed to be part of the cranial cavity of a sea creature that can grow up to 60 feet in length.

The skull shows two rows of jagged, teeth-like edges, which initially caused intrigue among the researchers.

However, further analysis revealed that the razor-like teeth were likely a severed region connecting the skull to another part of the creature's body.

This finding aligns with the fact that the creature in question is a humpback whale.

Humpback whales, known as Megatera novaengliae in scientific terms, possess specialized skull structures that support their unique feeding behaviors.

Instead of teeth, they use baleen, a protein structure, to filter-feed on plankton and algae.

The flexible nature of their skulls, particularly around the jaw joints, enables them to consume large volumes of water and prey.

This is not the first time humpback whales stranded along the North Carolina coast.

Factors such as hurricanes, shipwrecks, and the region's geography, including the proximity of the barrier island chains to the continental shelf, contribute to these strandings.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has recorded numerous humpback whale deaths in the area since 2016, some resulting from ship collisions or entanglement in fishing gear.

The NPS emphasized that it is illegal to possess any parts of a marine mammal carcass or bones under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

They urged the public to report any sightings of stranded marine mammals or sea turtle activity to the Cape Hatteras Stranding Hotline.

This finding has sparked numerous theories on social media.

After the discovery was made public on social media platforms, many online users flooded the comment section to suggest their opinions on what this mysterious skull could be.

Some refer to sea creatures living deep below the ocean that humans have never known, while others claim that the mysterious skull belongs to alien creatures.

Notably, a few users also pointed out that the giant skull belongs to 'Godzilla,' a giant creature from the famous movie of the same name.

Godzilla. It’s definitely Godzilla, one user said.

I'm not a marine biologist or an expert on fish but if I were to take a guess, I’d say it was from a whale of some sort, the second user guessed.

Ok if I die my skull will definitely tell how much I weighed. Things are getting clearer now, the third user joked.

A deep sea wale, another wrote.

Be worried about what killed that, someone commented.
