Ted Lasso Season 2 Trailer Reveals First Footage & July Release Date

During an Apple event, CEO Tim Cook announced season 2 of Ted Lasso would debut July 23rd and unveiled a trailer for the Jason Sudeikis-led comedy.

A trailer for Ted Lasso season 2 reveals the first footage and a July release date. Season 1 of the Jason Sudeikis-led comedy premiered in August of 2020 to much acclaim. The Apple TV+ series has been nominated for a slew of awards, including a Golden Globe and a SAG Award win for its star Sudeikis. Apple has shown a lot of confidence in Ted Lasso and is positioning it as its flagship series. It was renewed for a second season just days after its premiere and was picked up for a third after its inaugural season debuted to record-breaking numbers for the fledgling streaming service.

Based on a series of promos starring Sudeikis for NBC’s coverage of Premier League football, Ted Lasso follows its titular American football coach, who is unexpectedly recruited to manage a struggling English Premier League team, AFC Richmond. Though he has no experience coaching soccer, Ted Lasso approaches the job with the same perpetual positivity he exhibited as a football coach at Wichita State. The series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Goldstein, Phil Dunster, and Nick Mohammed.

During an event held today, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that season 2 of Ted Lasso would debut July 23rd and unveiled a teaser trailer to supplement the news. Many of the beloved characters from season 1 are present in the two-minute trailer, along with a brief look at the team’s new sports psychologist Sharon (played by I May Destroy You‘s Sarah Niles). Watch Ted Lasso season 2 teaser below:

Season 2 will reportedly follow Lasso’s club throughout a season of turmoil, as they were recently demoted to a lower league. According to showrunner Bill Lawrence, season 2 will not write the coronavirus pandemic into the story, as many other shows have already done. There is also no indication that the newly-created European Super League will be a plot point in season 2.

While season 2 of Ted Lasso will be two episodes longer than season 1, it is unclear how many episodes will be available for streaming on July 23rd. Season 1 made three episodes available on its launch date before transitioning to a weekly release schedule. Based on the newly released trailer, the sophomore season appears to be full of Ted Lasso’s hope, optimism, and underdog determination as a folksy football coach, even though it seems AFC Richmond’s losing streak is far from over. Season 2 of Ted Lasso debuts on July 23rd.
