A new trailer for The Dry has emerged online — centering on Eric Bana’s dramatic hunt for the truth regarding a series of connected murders. Published in 2016, the story originated as the debut novel of British/Australian author Jane Harper. The crime novel went on to win several awards and sell over 1 million copies worldwide. Even prior to the book’s release, however, the film rights were optioned by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea.
After being delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Dry was released in Australia and New Zealand earlier in 2021. Achieving sweeping critical acclaim, the film has already become one of the top-grossing Australian films of all time. With a U.S. release date confirmed for May 21, 2021, distributors IFC Films have released a new trailer. Check it out below:
Directed by Robert Connolly (from a script co-written with Harry Cripps), The Dry stars former Hulk actor Eric Bana as Aaron Falk. Alongside him, the film featured Genevieve O’Reilly, Keir O’Donnell, John Polson, and such cult-favorite Australian actors as Bruce Spence. Harper even cameoed in the film as a funeral attendee.
The official synopsis reads: Federal Agent Aaron Falk returns to his home town after an absence of over twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke, who allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life – a victim of the madness that has ravaged this community after more than a decade of drought. When Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate the crime, he opens up an old wound – the death of 17-year-old Ellie Deacon. Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected. As he struggles to prove not only Luke’s innocence but also his own, Falk finds himself pitted against the prejudice towards him and the pent-up rage of a terrified community.
