A vegetarian faced serious health issues after ordering McDonald’s
Charlotte Sunshine, 26, ordered a veggie deluxe meal at a McDonald’s in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, on June 8.
However, when she took a bite, she realized the sandwich contained chicken instead of the expected vegetarian patty
Despite the packaging clearly labeled “veggie deluxe,” the mistake became immediately apparent.
Sunshine described the moment as traumatic. “When I realized it was chicken, I felt really sick,” she recalled. “I immediately burst into tears and was physically sick.”
The experience left her in distress, with her first taste of meat triggering a strong emotional and physical reaction.
Sunshine also mentioned feeling a “Quorn-like” taste, prompting her to check the ingredients of her usual veggie burger. She discovered that the meal didn’t contain any meat substitutes, confirming that she had indeed eaten chicken.
Sunshine struggled with vomiting and tears, sparking health concerns after a McDonald’s order
After the mistake, Sunshine felt unwell and had stomach pains the next day. Although she recovered after a few days, she labeled the mix-up “dangerous.”
She speculated that she could have had a severe allergic reaction. “If I was allergic to chicken, I could have been hospitalized,” she warned.
The response of McDonald’s about the incident
On X platform, Sunshine tweeted McDonald’s to express her anger.
While McDonald’s offered an apology and a full refund, Sunshine felt the company didn’t take her concerns seriously.
She said, “It makes me feel undervalued. My beliefs should be just as important as anyone’s religious beliefs.”
Her boyfriend made a two-hour trip to support her, but the lack of adequate response from McDonald’s continued to upset her. “The lack of reaction from McDonald’s has really upset me because this is really important to me,” she added.
The incident highlights the risks associated with food mislabeling, especially for individuals with dietary restrictions or allergies.
While McDonald’s apologized for the mistake, Sunshine felt the response was insufficient.
For her, the mistake wasn’t just a minor error—it was a deeply upsetting and potentially dangerous experience. McDonald’s must take greater care in ensuring that dietary preferences and beliefs are respected.
