First responders arrived at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel after the manager’s emergency call. The manager reported a guest “putting his life at risk” and claimed Payne was destroying his hotel room while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“When he’s conscious, he’s breaking up the whole room. We need you to send someone, please,” the manager told the dispatcher.
Payne fell from the third-floor balcony, landing in the hotel’s inner courtyard. Emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti stated, “Our role was to give medical attention and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life.”
He added that the team found a cranial fracture and severe injuries. They could do nothing to save him. Payne’s body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
