Woman brings 23 family members on blind date to test generosity
Recently, a woman decided to bring her entire family along on a blind date to test her partner’s generosity.
Unfortunately, the plan backfired spectacularly, leaving the woman in a difficult and costly situation.
According to Taizhou Evening News, the incident took place in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang.
The woman, referred to as Miss Zhang, had arranged a blind date with a man named Mr. Lui.
However, rather than keeping the date intimate, Miss Zhang decided to invite 23 of her family members to join them for the meal.
Miss Zhang’s motivation was to gauge Mr. Lui’s willingness to cover the expenses for such a large group.
She was hoping that his generosity, or lack thereof, would provide insight into his character and suitability as a potential partner.
The partner immediately refuses to pay $3,100 bill
When Mr. Lui arrived at the restaurant, he saw Miss Zhang’s entire entourage and felt visibly shocked.
The man refused to pay for the 23 extra guests and quickly drove home.
He had agreed to a date with one person, not to host a large family dinner.
The woman finally stuck with $3,100 dinner bill
As a result, the woman ended up covering the entire bill.
By the end of the night, the total reached $3,100, and the date felt shocked when it was time to pay.
He had not expected to cover the expenses for so many people, as he believed he was meeting only one person for dinner.
The final tab for the meal amounted to a staggering 20,000 Chinese yuan, which is approximately $3,100 USD.
The case was brought to court
Unwilling to accept the financial burden, Miss Zhang took Mr. Lui to court, seeking reimbursement for the majority of the cost.
However, the court’s ruling was not in Miss Zhang’s favor.
The judge determined that Mr. Lui was responsible for only 1,400 Chinese yuan.
Miss Zhang remained responsible for the remaining 18,600 yuan.
Social media reaction
On social media, many people criticized the woman’s decision to test her partner in such an extreme manner.
Critics argued that bringing 23 family members to a first date was unreasonable and disrespectful, placing undue pressure on Mr. Lui.
They felt that genuine relationships should be built on clear communication and mutual respect, not on elaborate tests of generosity.
A lot of nerve bringing 23 extra people and feel he should pay the bill.
Good for him as I guess that’s his last blind date, one user said.
It’s a dinner for the whole family. I guess I’ll do the same thing. Nice move, man! The second user said.
That she deserves. She invited them! Let her family help her they ate the food.
No reason for him to pay for people he does not know. Let’s be fair, the third user commented.
Can’t blame him. She should have asked his permission before bringing that many with her for dinner, another wrote.
Good for him. It would be different if he had been told they were all coming and gonna be on his bill and he said ok, someone said.
