Lucy Carrington puts her husky on a vegetarian diet

Lucy Carrington, a mother of three, decided to put her Siberian husky, Storm, on a vegetarian diet during this summer’s heatwave.

Since Storm had stopped eating her regular food, Carrington switched to vegetarian dog food and let her eat the family’s leftover vegetables.

Carrington, who isn’t a vegetarian herself, hoped the change would help Storm feel better.

However, when Storm was given the choice between a bowl of vegetables and a bowl of meat, she went straight for the meat.

The incident sparked criticism from This Morning viewers, many accusing Carrington of “animal cruelty.”

Veterinarian Scott Miller explained that dogs are omnivores and need both meat and plants in their diet.

Carrington, however, defended her decision, explaining that she didn’t want to impose vegetarianism on Storm permanently.

She was only trying to help her during the hot summer months when Storm’s appetite waned.

Storm’s reaction to the meat vs. veg challenge

During the live appearance, Carrington allowed Storm to choose between two bowls.

In the footage, Storm was seen walking straight to the meat and eagerly devouring it without hesitation, much to Carrington’s surprise.

She joked, “Oh you little… I didn’t swear.”

The video quickly went viral and sparked debate on social media

On social media, many viewers were shocked after Storm chose meat despite Carrington putting him on a vegetarian diet.

While some criticized Carrington for putting Storm on a vegetarian diet, others suggested that Storm should eat a combination of meat and plants.

One person said: Dogs are bloody carnivores, and that is just the way it is. Stupid to try a dog on a vegan or vegetarian diet. Some vegetables and grains are fine but THEY NEED MEAT TO BE HEALTHY.

A second wrote: A human can make the choice not to eat meat; the poor dog is a victim of the owner’s stupidity; he doesn’t get to make a choice.

While a third commented: Dress them up if you must, treat them like children, but at the end of the day; it is a dog and could eat you.

veterinarian explains why dogs need meat in their diet

Scott Miller pointed out that while dogs can eat both meat and plants, it’s crucial not to deny them the meat they need for proper nutrition.

He explained that meat provides dogs with essential amino acids and vitamin D, which they cannot obtain in the same way humans do.

Following Storm’s clear preference for meat, Carrington admitted that she would resume feeding her dog meat. “If this is what she wants, then obviously I’m going to adapt accordingly,” she said.
