Jessica McLane, who attended Hendersonville High School in Tennessee with Swift, shared her perspective on the singer’s teenage years.
In her video, she discussed how some students reportedly disliked Swift during her rise to fame.

In her TikTok post, Jessica explained that she was a church-going student who did not listen to much of Swift’s music at the time.
She acknowledged that she didn’t know a lot about the pop star, but she wanted to share her memories from high school.
Jessica mentioned that when she was a freshman, Swift was a junior and had just begun to gain popularity with her song “Teardrops On My Guitar.”
“So in 2006, I’m a freshman in high school, Taylor is, I think, a junior. ‘Teardrops On My Guitar’ had just come out I think over the summer.
“Obviously she got really big and that’s the year that she left school, she was homeschooled in 2006.”

Jessica recalled that in 2006 when Swift was becoming a household name, she left high school to be homeschooled.
This decision came as Swift’s career began to take off, and her success led to mixed reactions from her peers.
According to Jessica, many students at their school had negative feelings towards Swift as she started to gain fame.

Jessica remarked, “Keep in mind, these are her peers, not just random people on the internet.”
She highlighted that these were students who saw Swift’s career unfold while they were still in school.
“She’s literally like what 16, 17, leaving high school to pursue a career that people are telling her that she could never have.
Moreover, Jessica emphasized that some of the boys Swift wrote songs about were still attending school with her.
This added a layer of complexity to the situation, as those boys might have felt exposed by the songs that discussed their relationships and shortcomings.
“Also, the guys she was writing these songs about, they were still in school. And now they have a hit song about them, talking about what a s****y boyfriend they are, you know?”

She admitted that despite being in high school with Swift, she did not know the specifics of these stories.

She acknowledged that Swift had every right to celebrate her achievements, even if it was tough for some of her former classmates.
“She invited us to the CMAs to say ‘F**k you’. And we deserved it,” McLane revealed.
“So Taylor, touché, that was a good one.”
