However, reports have emerged of vegetarian customers receiving wraps containing chicken nuggets instead of the promised red pesto goujons.

This mistake has left many customers upset and calling for better quality control.

McDonald’s launched its vegetarian wrap in January, describing it as a mix of red pesto veggie goujons, spicy relish, and fresh vegetables in a toasted tortilla.

The wrap, priced at $ 3.79 and approved by the Vegetarian Society, was well-received initially.

McDonald’s expressed excitement about providing more plant-based options, especially during Veganuary, a campaign encouraging meat-free eating.

They reported being served chicken nuggets instead of vegetarian goujons.

Many expressed their disappointment, citing the error as both distressing and unacceptable.

Previously, Emma Longley, a customer in Newcastle, shared her experience:

She wrote: ‘Just ordered the veggie wrap, turns out you gave me chicken. This is disgraceful.

‘This is disgraceful.

‘I’m fuming, was so looking forward to this! I’m a strict vegetarian and just took a mouthful of chicken, thanks a lot.’

Additionally, Nikitta Garman, a university student in Nottinghamshire, recounted her shock.

‘As I’d not tried it before I was unsure what to expect but after I took a bite it was clear that they had given me a chicken wrap in the box for the vegetarian one. I couldn’t believe such an error could occur, especially being so well-concealed given that it was in the veggie wrap box and looked near identical to the veggie wrap. I am keen on getting the word out… to ensure this doesn’t happen again affecting other people – especially someone who’s a lifelong vegetarian and may react far worse to having meat in their system for the first time!’ She wrote.

Some customers also mentioned feeling “humiliated” and “upset” after the mistake.

McDonald’s has acknowledged the issue and apologized.

A spokesperson stated: “We absolutely recognize that it is not acceptable to serve meat when our vegetarian product has been ordered. We apologize to any customer who has experienced this.”
