An influencer accidentally films herself being stung by deadly box jellyfish, capturing the shocking moment on camera.

A travel influencer had a shocking experience while on vacation in the Philippines.

While enjoying the beautiful waters, she accidentally filmed herself getting stung by a deadly box jellyfish. This incident shows the dangers of jellyfish and how important it is to be careful while swimming.

The influencer, known as Julie, was on a trip to the tropical island of Coron. She was wading through the shallow water and filming videos for a brand collaboration.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp, excruciating pain in her upper thigh. At that moment, she realized she had been stung by one of the most venomous creatures in the world.

Julie described the pain as intense and unlike anything she had ever experienced. She said it felt like a hot iron pressing against her skin.

In her own words, “I think I was screaming for like an hour, my voice was gone nearly because I was screaming so much, that’s how bad the pain was,” she said.

The pain was so severe that she feared she might be having a heart attack.

As the venom spread through her body, Julie felt a burning sensation in her stomach, arms, and head.

She was terrified, especially because she was on a remote island two hours away from help. There was no phone signal, and she felt very alone in her pain.

“It was scary because we were on a remote island two hours away from any land, there’s no signal,” she said.

Fortunately, there were medical professionals nearby. An Australian doctor and nurse were aboard the boat she was traveling on.

They quickly came to her aid and monitored her condition until they could get her to a hospital three hours away.

The danger of box jellyfish

Box jellyfish are known for their deadly stings. They can cause serious harm and can kill a person within half an hour if not treated quickly.

Even if the sting does not lead to death, it can cause vomiting, headaches, and extreme discomfort. Julie’s experience serves as a reminder of how dangerous these creatures can be.

Marine biologist Dr. Lisa-ann Gershwin explained that box jellyfish are responsible for about 50 deaths each year in places like the Philippines.

In Australia, due to better prevention and education, fatalities are much lower. The risk of being stung is very real, and swimmers need to be aware of their surroundings.

“It can take as little as three metres worth of stings on the body to kill a healthy adult, and it happens in less than two minutes,” Gershwin said.

“Not everybody who is stung by a box jellyfish will die… but if you’ve been stung more than that lethal threshold, then, yeah, statistically you are probably going to die. It’s really quite mathematical.”

Capturing the chilling moment on camera

What makes this incident even more shocking is that Julie inadvertently filmed the entire event.

In her video, she was smiling and talking to the camera when suddenly she screamed in pain. The footage shows her reaction and the moment she dropped her phone.

Julie later shared this video on social media, which gained a lot of attention. Many viewers were stunned by the incident and expressed their concern for her safety.

Julie said, “Some people were like, if you weren’t on your phone maybe you would’ve seen it,” she said. “Maybe I would’ve seen it, but it was completely see-through, so I think even if I wasn’t on my phone, I wouldn’t have been able to see it.”

However, she noted that the jellyfish was clear and difficult to spot, even without filming.

Julie experiences ongoing health issues after the sting.

Since the sting, Julie has been dealing with some health problems. She believes the jellyfish sting may have caused ongoing gut issues.

Additionally, she has a large scar on her thigh as a reminder of the experience. The pain and the lasting effects have changed how she views her time in the water.

Julie wants to educate others about the dangers of jellyfish and the importance of being cautious while swimming.

She hopes that sharing her story will help raise awareness and prevent similar incidents from happening to others.
