Victims of the mexican navy ship that crashed into brooklyn bridge have been identified.
A tragic accident occurred on May 17 when the Mexican Navy training ship Cuauhtémoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge.
The collision left over 20 people injured and two dead.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two victims.
They are América Yamilet Sánchez, a 21-year-old naval cadet from Veracruz, and Adal Jair Maldonado Marcos from Oaxaca.
Both families have received condolences from Mexican officials and the local communities are mourning the loss.
President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the crash to reporters on Sunday, saying: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of two crew members of the Cuauhtémoc Training Ship, who lost their lives in the unfortunate accident in New York Harbor. Our sympathy and support go out to their families.”
Family and friends of Sánchez held a memorial on Sunday. Gael de la Cruz, a loved one, questioned what led to the ship’s collision.
She told Reuters: “It’s impossible for something so serious to not be thoroughly investigated. What happened there is illogical. There must be someone responsible.”

Officials and experts have suggested different reasons for the crash.
While, the ship’s tall masts struck the bridge as it tried to pass underneath during its goodwill tour.
The New York Police Department suspects a mechanical failure.
He said: “It was the pilot that is assigned to navigate, you know, the boat out of the water. I believe he lost – and there was some mechanical issues that probably caused the ship to to hit the water.”
NYPD Special Operations Chief Wilson Aramboles said the pilot may have lost control due to technical issues.
Meanwhile, the city’s Office of Emergency Management claims the ship was heading the wrong way and was not meant to sail under the bridge.
Marine specialists also pointed to tide and water conditions contributing to the accident.

A press briefing is scheduled for May 20, where officials will update the public on the investigation’s progress.
Mexico’s Navy has also promised a transparent inquiry.
Secretary Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles affirmed their commitment to full accountability.
