Trump’s ambitious $175 billion Golden Dome defense plan aims to shield the US from emerging global threats.
President Trump has unveiled the Golden Dome defense system, a $175 billion program.
It is designed to protect the United States from advanced missile threats amid rising global tensions.
Trump plans the Golden Dome defense
Amid rising fears of a possible World War 3, former President Donald Trump unveiled a bold $175 billion defense initiative called the Golden Dome.
Trump’s program is designed to protect the United States from the deadliest missile and drone attacks. This plan ensures national security in a volatile geopolitical environment.
Trump has signed numerous executive orders, but this latest defense strategy could become a defining moment.
With increasing threats from adversaries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran, the Golden Dome aims to build an unprecedented protective shield around the nation.
Golden Dome needed amid rising rival threats
Defense officials believe tha the Golden Dome defense system is necessary due to growing threats from rival nations.
Russia and China have developed satellites capable of disabling critical U.S. space assets.
North Korea’s missile tests have proven its capability to strike the U.S. mainland, and Iran is rapidly advancing its missile programs.
The Department of Defense has been instructed to roll out the Golden Dome system in phases.
The initial focus will be on protecting the most vulnerable areas.
Additionally, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the system will target multiple threats.
These include cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and both nuclear and conventional drones.
Defense insiders support the Golden Dome
The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) backs the project. It warns that adversaries are developing advanced weapons to evade current missile defenses.
A recent DIA report highlights China and Russia’s development of novel missile delivery systems that threaten U.S. security.
Former U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery echoed these concerns.
He said: “Over the last 20 years our adversaries have seen that we were unwilling to make the investments in missile defence so cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, hypersonic missile and then drones.”
He called the Golden Dome “absolutely necessary.”
Additionally, he noted that adversaries have exploited America’s previous reluctance to invest in advanced missile defense systems, putting national safety at risk.
Golden Dome promises near-total U.S. protection in 3 years
On May 20, Trump confidently claimed the Golden Dome would provide “close to 100 percent protection” for the U.S. within three years.
He projected the timeline to be between two and a half to three years. The defense system will combine next-generation technologies across land, sea, and space.
It will include space-based sensors and interceptors.
These components are designed to neutralize missiles launched from anywhere in the world—even from space.
The Golden Dome, once completed, will set a new standard as the most advanced missile defense system ever built. It will significantly strengthen U.S. security by reducing vulnerabilities and adding a vital layer of protection amid rising global tensions.
Trump said: “I’m pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this state-of-the-art system that will deploy next-generation technologies across the land, sea and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors,” Trump said.
“Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they are launched from other sides of the world, and even if they’re launched from space. And we will have the best system ever built.”
