Vivian, now 20 years old, had not spoken to her father for several months before sharing her news.
She mentioned that she needed his permission to start hormone therapy and testosterone blockers.
This was a challenging situation for her, as she felt distant from him at that time.
In her interview with Teen Vogue, Vivian expressed her feelings about the lack of support from her father.
She said, “He was not as supportive as my mom.”
“First of all, I had not talked to him in months — in months — so I had to get f–king parental consent to get testosterone blockers and [hormone replacement therapy].”

Support from her mother
Vivian’s mother, Justine Wilson, showed understanding and care during this period. Vivian described her mother as very supportive.
Justine is a published author of supernatural romance fiction, and Vivian credits her mother for many of her creative ideas.
“She was very supportive of my transition. She is a published writer of supernatural romance fiction, which is where I get all my Vivian-isms,” Vivian told the outlet.
“When I came out to her, she was like, ‘Yeah, that figures,’” she added.
“She kind of [pieced it together], so when I came out, she pretended to be slightly surprised for 30 seconds and then was like, ‘Yeah, honey. Okay.’”

Elon Musk’s estranged daughter encountered significant challenges in her relationship with her father.
While Vivian received love and acceptance from her mother, her relationship with Elon Musk has been more complicated.
She has expressed feelings of disappointment regarding his lack of support.
In the interview, she referred to her father as a “pathetic man-child,” which shows her frustration and hurt.
“Why would I feel scared of him? Ohhh, he has so much power. Nah, nah, nah. I don’t give a f–k. Why should I be scared of this man?
Because he’s rich? Oh, no, I’m trembling. Ooh, shivering in my boots here.”
Vivian’s journey to self-acceptance has been empowering.
Vivian’s journey to self-acceptance began when she filed a request to change her name in June 2022.
She chose to take her mother’s last name and wanted to distance herself from her father.

The filing stated that she wished to change her name due to her gender identity and her desire not to be associated with Elon Musk.
This decision marked a significant step in her life. It was a way for Vivian to assert her identity and make a fresh start.
She has been open about the challenges she faced, including the need for parental consent for medical procedures during her transition.
Elon Musk expressed disappointment over Vivian’s transition decisions.
Two years after Vivian’s transition, Elon Musk claimed that he felt deceived about her medical decisions.
He expressed that he had “lost” his child and suggested that he had been tricked regarding her gender reassignment.
Vivian responded to her father’s statements with strong words.
She stated that she looks “pretty good for a dead bitch,” indicating her confidence and defiance.
