A mysterious black ring appeared in the blue skies over Williamsburg, Virginia, this week.
It was captured the attention of locals and sparking widespread speculation.
The ominous circle, which hovered for about ten minutes before vanishing, was first reported around 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
Local reactions and observations
Ron Stepp, who was working near Eastern State Hospital, described the phenomenon as a huge smoke ring in the sky.
The sighting was confirmed by various residents who observed the ring from nearby neighborhoods. Additionally, they noted its visibility over a major highway and other locations.

This sighting in Virginia is not an isolated incident.
In June, a similar ring-shaped cloud was captured on video over Venezuela, which went viral on social media.
Another black ring was observed over Pearland, Texas, in July, drifting across an orange and pink sunset. However, these occurrences have led to a variety of theories regarding their origin.
Previously, A TikTok video shared by @neshahiggins last year showed what appeared to be a flying saucer among the clouds.
The TikToker questioned, “What the f**k is that?” in the footage.
Despite the excitement, some commenters dismissed the sighting as just a lenticular cloud, a type of cloud often mistaken for UFOs.
While, these clouds are known for their unusual shapes, which frequently lead to speculation about extraterrestrial objects.

Experts suggest that the black rings could be the result of fires, explosions, or even fireworks.
However, there were no reported fires or explosions in the Williamsburg area at the time of the sighting.
WAVY contacted the James City County Fire Department for clarification. The fire chief was unaware of any incidents related to the appearance of the ring.
Despite numerous sightings worldwide and various theories, the exact cause of these mysterious black rings remains unconfirmed.
