One person said: all of Sedona makes its businesses have very small minimalistic signs that don’t take away from the nature beauty of the landscape.

A second wrote: I think it might just be the whole McDonalds that clashes.

While a third commented: I support the aesthetic movement.

Someone else said: I wanna be rich so I can open a McDonald’s and also paint the arches turquoise to rob it of it’s individuality

Another said: It’s the only one with blue arches, there are many without yellow ones, usually with black ones in historic districts of cities around the world.

I just saw this McDonald’s last month when I was in Sedona and wondered why lol. Another added.

Why does Sedona’s McDonald’s feature blue arches

Sedona’s McDonald’s opened in 1993. At that time, city officials believed the golden arches would clash with the area’s beautiful red rock landscape.

To gain approval for construction, McDonald’s had to change its logo from yellow to teal.

Cari Meyer, Senior Planner of the City of Sedona, explained the decision.

She said, “McDonald’s was built in the early 1990s, right after the city was incorporated in 1989.” She added that someone suggested the restaurant should adopt a color that fit the city’s identity.

Sedona’s McDonald’s isn’t the only one with a modified logo. In Monterey, California, there is a location with black arches, designed to blend with the local environment.

In Rocklin, California, a McDonald’s features red arches.

European locations also showcase unconventional designs.

In Paris, France, and Bruges, Belgium, McDonald’s have white arches. The Paris branch, located on the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées, conformed to city regulations to match the elegant architecture surrounding it.

The turquoise arches of Sedona’s McDonald’s tell a fascinating story.
