“Yesterday afternoon, Air Wing were conducting a sweep of the hilly terrain when they spotted Lillian’s car at the end of a dirt road in the Mitta Mitta bushland,” police said.

Police said their Air Wing team spotted her vehicle during a sweep of the rugged terrain, about 60 kilometers from the nearest town. Officers on foot approached the car and led Lillian to safety.

To stay warm, Lillian used her car’s heater at night. Her health issues prevented her from walking far for help, so she stayed near her vehicle.

Lillian’s family became worried after not hearing from her and contacted the police. Authorities praised her for using common sense by remaining with her car.

“She had the great common sense not to wander off,” Torpey stated. “She was extremely relieved and grateful to see us when we arrived.”

Lillian was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for dehydration. Fortunately, she had no severe injuries and was in stable condition.

This ordeal highlights the unpredictability of the wilderness. Having adequate supplies and staying put can save lives in such situations.

“The only liquid Lillian, who doesn’t drink, had with her was a bottle of wine she had bought as a gift for her mother so that got her through,” Torpey added of her impromptu survival kit.

Lillian’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience and resourcefulness. Despite her limited supplies, she managed to survive five days in harsh conditions.

In short, her experience underscores the importance of preparation, common sense, and quick action by emergency responders in ensuring a safe outcome.
