Alone with his dog, an artist dedicated a decade to carving a massive cave.

A man who spent 25 years living in isolation from the world has unveiled the incredible underground caves he meticulously created.

Ra Paulette, an artist, along with his loyal canine companion, dedicated more than two decades to crafting intricate sandstone artwork in the Northern deserts of New Mexico.

His ceaseless efforts involved meticulously carving delicate designs into the cave walls, transforming them into stunning works of art.

Following a quarter of a century of tireless work, Ra was finally ready to reveal his astonishing masterpiece.

Reflecting on the considerable amount of time he devoted to his craft, he said, “When you are doing something you love, and are drawn to it, you want to do it all the time.”

He coined his artistic process the 'dance of digging,' and it's evident from the images why it took him so long to unveil his creations.

The inspiration behind the cave's carved walls is the natural light that filters in during the day.

Ra hopes that when people observe and experience his work, they will discover ‘at least a moment or a length of time in which they had a deeper feeling and deeper understanding of themselves and life’.

While it may seem that Ra is a solitary figure, the only person to embark on such an extensive yet rewarding project, this assumption is incorrect.

In fact, this cave, equipped with all the amenities and furnishings of a typical home, including a functional kitchen, bedroom, running water, underground heating, and even Wi-Fi, is not located in the deserts of New Mexico but in the UK.

Situated in Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, this remarkable cave is known as the Rockhouse Retreat.

Ra purchased the cave initially for £62,000, a significant sum, but one that wouldn't even buy a conventional house, let alone an entire cave!
