Voahangy Rasetarinera, owner of The Giving Pies in San Jose, received the order on Valentine’s Day.

A Tesla representative requested 4,000 pies for an event celebrating Black History Month.

Bakery owner receives approval but no payment from Tesla’s vendor

Rasetarinera sent Tesla a quote, which the company approved. However, Tesla’s vendor failed to process the payment.

“She said, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry that vendor hadn’t paid you yet, I think they’re kind of new’,” Rasetarinera said.

“‘And I have a question for you, can we double the order?’”

When Rasetarinera followed up, the Tesla representative apologized, stating that the vendor was new.

The representative then asked if the order could be doubled. Rasetarinera agreed, requiring her staff to work extra hours and buy additional ingredients. To fulfill the order, she canceled other commitments.

After increasing production to meet Tesla’s request, Rasetarinera received a text canceling the order.

The message read: “It unfortunately sounds like we will be changing plans and will not be needing this order.

Thank you so much for your support I appreciate it.” The abrupt cancellation resulted in a loss exceeding $16,000 for her small business.

Tesla’s decision comes from upper management, leaving the bakery owner feeling betrayed

Rasetarinera reached out for an explanation. Tesla informed her that upper management made the cancellation decision. She expressed frustration, stating that shifting blame to leadership deepened her sense of betrayal.

After the incident, Bakery owner shares her disappointment on social media. Rasetarinera then took to Facebook to share her experience.

She described the incident as devastating, highlighting Tesla’s lack of accountability. “I had invested time, resources, and effort based on assurances from Tesla, only to be left high and dry,” she wrote.

A second wrote: Most companies require a deposit and in most cases payment in full on any special orders like this, her own fault.

While a third commented: For an order that large she should have required a 50% prepay and the balance upon delivery.

Tesla has yet to respond to the controversy
