Ben Affleck considers himself ‘lucky’ to have ex-wife Jennifer Garner while opening up about his ’embarrassing’ divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
Ben Affleck opens up about his relationships
Ben Affleck recently shared his thoughts on his relationships with Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez. The actor expressed gratitude for Garner while addressing his divorce from Lopez.
In a new interview with GQ, Affleck discussed his personal life as he prepared for his upcoming film, The Accountant 2.
This marks the first time he has publicly spoken about his split from Lopez.
Affleck reflects on his divorce from Lopez
Two months after finalizing his divorce, Affleck clarified that there was no scandal. He emphasized that breakups are often complex and personal.
“Yeah, there’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue,” Affleck said. “It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships.”
The actor admitted that discussing his relationships feels vulnerable.
The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’, well, there is no: ‘This is what happened’. It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.” He explained.
He added: “For one thing, you start going, ‘Okay, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues’, and the reason I don’t want to share that, is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”
Affleck appreciates co-parenting with Jennifer Garner
Affleck and Garner, who were married from 2005 to 2018, share three children. Despite their divorce, they have maintained a strong co-parenting relationship.
“I’m really lucky that I have a really good co-parent and partner in Jennifer Garner,” Affleck said. “She’s wonderful and great, and we work together well. It’s more of a headache than anything else and there certainly are worse things.”
He also recalled an experience with their children regarding tabloid rumors.
“And also, really more importantly, my kids know. We used to have a thing, my ex-wife and I, when they would see something (on a magazine) on a supermarket stand, we would say, well, ‘You know this isn’t always true because if it were, you would have 15 brothers or sisters or whatever the number of stories is where they said that your mom was pregnant.” he shared.
Affleck insists his life is drama-free
Despite media speculation, Affleck described his life as relatively calm.
“I’m sure in your mind you’re thinking, ‘Oh, well, you just got divorced. That’s not drama-free.’ And I understand that instinct,” he said. “But all of this is pretty adult.”
The actor acknowledged that tabloid stories might seem sensational, but his real-life experiences are far from dramatic.
“If somebody sat down and talked to me about it, their eyes would glaze over with boredom,” he concluded.
Affleck remains focused on his family and career, choosing to keep personal matters private while maintaining strong relationships with both Lopez and Garner.
