According to reports, football is set to undergo a major change with the introduction of blue cards.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is said to have approved the addition of blue cards to the game, as reported by The Telegraph.

UEFA President Aleksandr Ceferin opposes the idea and states that European cup competitions will not implement blue cards.

He believes that this change is not in the best interest of football and emphasizes the importance of preserving the current rules.

Ceferin suggests that IFAB, with its European members, would unlikely make decisions against football's interests.

He desires to avoid being remembered as the individual who altered the game and emphasizes the need to maintain football's integrity during this period.

How does this blue card work?

There is information suggesting that temporary dismissals will be introduced alongside the new blue card in professional football matches.

This new rule could see players being sent off the field for 10 minutes if they commit an act of dissent or show resistance towards the referee.

The way the card works is that if a player receives two blue cards or a combination of a yellow and blue card, they may be shown a red card.

The new protocol is expected to be announced on Friday, February 9th.

On social media, fans have been commenting on the news.

This change caused a stir on social media, causing mixed debates about the introduction of green cards in football.

"I don't like the blue card, experimenting with temporary dismissals," one wrote.

"I'm confident it will only add an extra layer of subjective agony that we spend hours arguing about," the second replied.

"10v11 rarely produces an entertaining spectacle, why try to have more of it?" "Football is a simple game. Let's keep it that way," someone wrote.

"I find it strange that people are criticizing the blue card. Maybe it won't work. This is a trial. It was created to address two clear issues in the game - a) sometimes fouls are advantageous to allow a player to go through, and b) red cards ruin matches," another commenter said,
