High-resolution satellite images captured in early April show a major naval project underway at North Korea’s Nampo shipyard, southwest of the capital Pyongyang.

Imagery provided by Maxar Technologies and Planet Labs reveals a colossal vessel under construction.

While, one experts believe is the most advanced North Korean warship ever seen.

According to analysts, the warship is estimated to measure 140 meters (459 feet), making it the largest warship North Korea has ever built.

Experts identify the vessel as a guided-missile frigate with dual strike capabilities

Defense analysts from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies say the vessel appears to be a guided-missile frigate (FFG) capable of launching offensive strikes.

Such a warship could reportedly engage both land and sea targets.

This would significantly boost North Korea’s maritime capabilities in future conflicts or displays of power.

“This vessel represents a strategic leap in North Korea’s naval doctrine,” experts Joseph Bermudez Jr. and Jennifer Jun noted in their analysis.

The satellite images come just weeks after North Korea unveiled a new “nuclear-powered strategic guided missile submarine.” This further confirms the country’s commitment to naval modernization.

During a recent shipyard visit, Kim Jong-Un emphasized his priority to enhance North Korea’s military readiness and technological strength amid escalating global tensions.

South Korean analyst Moon Keun-sik estimates the newly unveiled submarine could be a 6,000 to 7,000-ton-class vessel with capacity to launch approximately 10 missiles.
