A recent event at a church has left worshippers both baffled and amazed.
During a routine prayer service, some churchgoers noticed something unusual about the statue of the Virgin Mary.
They claimed that the statue appeared to be “winking” at them.
This unexpected phenomenon has sparked a mix of confusion and curiosity on social media.
Churchgoers baffled after spotting Virgin Mary statue ‘winking at them’
Churchgoers in Ohio, USA, were left stunned after witnessing what they believed to be a miraculous event involving a statue of the Virgin Mary.
The National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which has traveled to over 100 countries since 1968, was on display at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
During this time, worshippers claimed to have seen the statue wink at them.
A churchgoer spotted Virgin Mary statue winking on camera
The remarkable incident occurred on August 2, 2024, when several attendees, including Katie Moran and Connie Liptak, captured the baffling moment on camera.
Moran, who is responsible for overseeing the statue, was taken aback when she noticed the eyes of the statue appear to close and then reopen.
“I took it and thought, ‘that’s really nice’.
I took one more to be sure and when I looked at it, the eyes were closed I [went], ‘wow!'” Moran recounted.
Liptak, another eyewitness, echoed Moran’s observations.
“I knew it was a miracle because I’d been looking at her all morning.
They’re really closed. I mean, you can really see her lashes are down,” Liptak recounted.
The photographs taken by the worshippers do indeed seem to show the statue’s eyes blinking, despite it being an inanimate object.
The statue was blessed by Pope Paul VI at Fatima in 1967 and gifted to the UK the following year.
It is already believed to possess mystical healing powers.
Moran has reported that visitors to the statue have claimed to have been cured of various ailments, including cancer and infertility problems.
“For those who believe, no proof is necessary.
For those who don’t, no proof is possible. It’s faith and I believe,” Moran said, reflecting the sentiment of those who witnessed the apparent miracle.
Social media reactions
The alleged winking of the Virgin Mary statue has sparked a sense of wonder and belief among the churchgoers.
Others, however, remain skeptical.
Some have suggested that there might be a more rational explanation for what they saw.
They wonder if the statue’s blinking could be due to a change in lighting or an optical illusion.
I don’t discount this. I have seen some very strange things in my life.
There is so much more to this realm, things we cannot see, sometimes we can only sense them, get a rare glimpse, one user said.
The photos are at much different angles. The mouth changes too.
I’m a believer in miracles but there are rational explanations for this one, the second user indicated.
