South Carolina Republican Representative Joe Wilson announced his plan on February 25.

He posted an image of the potential banknote on Twitter, advocating for its creation. The bill, designed in the traditional green color, prominently features Trump’s face in full color.

Wilson expressed his enthusiasm in the post, stating:

“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump.”

He further justified the proposal by blaming inflation:

“Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!”

One person said: Stop wasting money on stupid shit dude. We don’t need this.

A second wrote: Really? I voted for Trump, but isn’t there more pressing issues at hand?

While a third commented: It MUST be limited production! When you insert higher currency, that is a sign of a weakening currency.

Someone else said: No sitting President enshrined. History will judge.

Someone wrote: The US can’t put live people’s faces on money. We could put Reagan’s face on a $250 bill, though

Another added: I’d rather we end the Fed and go back to gold.

Great idea! Now we have a large enough bill to pay for a single carton of eggs. Another user commented.

Wilson remains committed to the proposal

Despite the backlash, Wilson remained determined. In a follow-up post, he shared a draft of the proposed legislation. He stated:

“Grateful to introduce the DONALD J. TRUMP $250 BILL ACT. This big beautiful bill will honor the 250th birthday of America and our most valuable President Donald J. Trump!”

He also thanked fellow Republican cosponsors: Representatives Diana Harshbarger, Ralph Norman, and Darrell Issa.

Wilson’s proposal has gained attention, but its chances of becoming law remain slim.

Critics argue that Congress should focus on more urgent national matters. For now, the idea of a Trump-themed banknote remains more of a political statement than a practical policy change.
