In an awkward interview, Donald Trump spoke about Elon Musk’s “deep fear,” fueling speculation that their friendship may be falling apart.
Is the ‘bromance’ between Trump and Musk in danger?
Donald Trump and Elon Musk have dismissed rumors about their friendship falling apart. Speculation grew after reports suggested tensions between them. However, Trump has now set the record straight.
How Trump and Musk became close allies
Trump and Musk formed a close bond during the 2024 campaign. Their connection led to Musk joining the Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE) as a special government employee. Despite their past conflicts, the two appeared to strengthen their relationship.
Trump and Musk respond to media speculation
In a preview of an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Trump addressed media reports about their friendship. Hannity claimed the media attempted to create a rift between them.
“Now I see they want a divorce. They want you two to start hating each other,” Hannity said.
Trump confirmed that Musk reached out to him regarding the rumors. “Elon called me and said, ‘You know they are trying to drive us apart?’ I said, ‘Absolutely,'” Trump recalled.
The former president joked about Musk being referred to as “President Musk” and leading a cabinet meeting. Musk laughed at the remark, showing no signs of tension.
Trump criticizes media portrayal
Trump expressed frustration over what he sees as unfair media coverage. He claimed no president in history has received more negative publicity than him. “I could do the greatest things, yet I get 98 percent bad publicity,” he said.
Musk agreed, stating that people recognize what is happening in the media. Trump also praised Hannity and Fox News for their reporting.
Past conflicts between Trump and Musk
Despite their current alliance, Trump and Musk have had their share of disagreements. In 2016, Musk said Trump was “not the right guy” for the presidency. A year later, Musk resigned from presidential advisory boards after Trump withdrew from the Paris Agreement.
In 2022, their relationship remained rocky. Trump called Musk a “bulls*** artist” after the billionaire expressed interest in buying Twitter. Musk responded by saying, “I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat.”
How their friendship evolved
Despite past disputes, Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account. By 2023, Musk showed support for some of Trump’s policies. He even donated $45 million a month to a pro-Trump Super PAC in 2024.
Later that year, reports suggested Musk could lead a new government efficiency group. Trump also attended a SpaceX starship launch in Texas, further cementing their bond.
According to media reports, Trump and Musk now spend “almost every day together.” Musk even refers to himself as “First Buddy,” highlighting their close relationship.
While rumors of a falling-out persist, both men appear to be on good terms. Their partnership continues to shape political and technological discussions in the U.S.
