On social media, many viewers were stunned after Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced he would donate Cybertrucks to aid the LA community during the wildfire.
Elon Musk pauses Cybertruck deliveries to focus on relief efforts
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has temporarily delayed some Cybertruck deliveries in California. The company is repurposing these vehicles to support relief operations in wildfire-affected areas.
On Sunday, Musk announced this decision on X (formerly Twitter):
“Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California over the next few days. We need to use those trucks as mobile base stations to provide power to Starlink Internet terminals in areas of LA without connectivity. A new truck will be delivered end of week.”
In a follow-up post, Musk explained the plan to deploy Cybertrucks equipped with Starlink satellite internet:
“We are going to position Cybertrucks with Starlinks and free WiFi in a grid pattern in the areas that most need it in the greater LA/Malibu area.”
The initiative aims to address the urgent need for internet connectivity and power in regions devastated by wildfires.
Social media reaction
On social media, many viewers sparked discussion after Elon Musk donated Cybertrucks to provide the LA community with power instead of donating money or essential supplies to people affected by wildfires when he became the richest man in the world.
One person said: Several truck only. There’s thousands displaced. How bout a monetary donation. Temporary housing. Pay for complete hotels for them. Entire stay.
A second wrote: Here’s a thought, let’s be happy if it helps in anyway instead of nit picking. If the donation gives some power and or internet that’s great given what these people are going through.
While a third commented: He’s a great Samaritan!
Another added: What an awesome man!!!
Someon else said: Donating exploding vehicles literally seems like adding fuel to the fire.
Another user added: Worlds richest man donated what amounts to $100,000 to the sheriffs department for some good press!
Starlink also offers free service to support affected communities
SpaceX, another company led by Musk, is also contributing to the relief efforts. Last week, an email to Starlink customers announced one month of free service for users in wildfire-stricken areas.
Musk reiterated this commitment on X, stating:
“SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to affected areas in LA tomorrow morning.”
This proactive measure ensures residents can stay connected during the crisis without additional financial burden.
Additionally, Tesla donated Cybertrucks to the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. These vehicles are being used as battery banks to supply power during outages.
Tesla plans to send more Cybertrucks to other affected areas in Los Angeles and Malibu. Musk acknowledged the impact on customers awaiting deliveries but emphasized the importance of prioritizing relief efforts:
“Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California. We need to prioritize the trucks for donations to the most affected areas.”
According to Tesla’s website, a Cybertruck can power a home for up to three days or even run a coffee shop. The donated vehicles are equipped with Starlinks to provide free Wi-Fi, ensuring connectivity for residents in need.
In short, Elon Musk and his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting communities in crisis. By redirecting resources to aid wildfire victims, they are providing essential power, internet, and infrastructure.
